Description
9000T - LIVEWIRE TANTO, KESHAW KNIVES
Kershaw and designer Matt Diskin team up for an ultra-strong OTF auto: the Livewire - Tanto.
The premium CPM MagnaCut blade offers superior edge retention and deploys with authority. Its tanto blade shape is designed for reliable piercing cuts, with a thick tip that can withstand impact on hard materials. The stealthy BlackWash™ finish complements this rugged blade, hiding scratches and wear. The black anodized aluminum handle is lightweight yet strong, with a textured surface for a secure grip. Its curved, staircase-like button ensures smooth, comfortable deployment. When closed, the knife is easy to carry with its reversible deep-carry clip and light weight. For a Livewire with enhanced toughness, the tanto version is the perfect choice.
Made in the USA Out-the-Front Automatic
- Tanto blade shape: Ideal for piercing and cutting through tough materials; inspired by traditional Japanese design
- Premium CPM MagnaCut powdered metallurgy blade steel: Excels in edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance; BlackWash™ finish hides use scratches
- Black anodized aluminum handle: Lightweight strength with textured grip; charcoal gray Cerakote button finish
- Reversible deep-carry pocket clip: Suitable for both left and right-hand carry
The tanto knife originated in feudal Japan around the 12th century, worn by samurai and used in traditional martial arts. Known for its unique blade shape, including a flat grind and sharp angle at the spine, it excels at stabbing and piercing. While modern tanto designs differ from their traditional counterparts, they remain popular in the West, especially as tactical knives, since the 1980s.

History of Kershaw Knives
The knife industry has evolved over the past 50 years, but Kershaw has remained steadfast in its commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Founded by Pete Kershaw, an avid outdoorsman, Kershaw began in 1974 in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Originally focused on hunting knives, Pete searched for the best materials and craftsmanship to ensure lasting quality.
Around this time, Kai, a Japanese company with a long history in crafting fine blades, was expanding internationally. Kershaw and Kai joined forces, merging Pete’s quality-focused vision with Kai’s experience in bladed tools, creating a partnership that has endured for decades.
The 1990s marked a new chapter for Kershaw, introducing innovative features like the first liner lock knives in the Liner Action series. With Kai CEO Koji Endo’s support, Kershaw established a USA manufacturing facility to expand production and innovation. Industry-Changing Technology In 1998, Kershaw pioneered the assisted opening mechanism, which revolutionized the knife industry and became a hallmark of the brand. Innovating for Tomorrow Today, Kershaw continues to innovate at its Tualatin, Oregon, facility, creating knives with advanced technology, Kershaw Original designs, and collaborations with top custom makers, constantly pushing the boundaries of knife design and functionality.
